to describe the work exercised by cult of zir along standard artistic lines, using terms which would typically refer to aesthetic, entertainment, decoration, spectacle, event, environment..

..would fall a bit short of the mark, though these principles as components are surely utilized as often as possible toward the end intended.

to visualize cult of zir as a political aim would also evade the task at hand, though any aim intending to affect genuine social change cannot be truly considered apolitical or apathetic.

as a religion cult of zir would perhaps draw nearer the point of all this seemingly pretentious experimentation. still, if true, this facet of its purpose would be but one lens thru which to understand.
what, then? and why?

the best we have yet come up with, to this point, is that it opens a conduit from elsewhere to here, and/or vice-versa. there is perhaps a certain something which we have come to find extremely important, which cannot be communicated verbally. to connect with it we must go within, removing the obstacles of self which block its passage into us. it is when we’ve begun to succeed at this that the indwelling of the aforementioned elusive abstract takes place, and communication can begin.

this means of perceiving ourselves, the environment we exist within, the others we share it with, makes us wiser, healthier, more capable of affecting change. we learn more of what it means as we learn to execute these mechanisms, the never-ending aim opens for us like a black rose.

cult of zir bares itself for all to witness this indignant and foolish exploration toward transformation, in hopes it will inspire others to do the same for themselves. as art, it depends on the nervous systems of its witnesses, participants, collaborators, to be complete. it could happen alone, in a basement studio temple, and often does, but that’s merely half the game.

the process must involve sharing itself with others, either in the form of art masked as ritual, or ritual masked as art. wether through trickery or utmost honesty,if we could explain, we wouldn’t need to do it. would we know the difference? and yet we feel tortuously compelled to try, thus here we are.

the process’s key engine seems to be twofold:

a) an indomitable will to carry out the process, wherever it may take us and no matter the obstacle, flying in the face of control’s cruel game.

b) the deepest love for the process itself, and for all that with which it comes into contact. it is to my benefit to give myself to you. it is for your benefit that i nurture myself.

we speculate that it isn’t nolon ashley who makes this possible, but all present with their intentions and perceptions. perhaps even something beyond all that we can percieve.

however, someone has to create reasons to instigate moments like these for all of us to participate in, no? why not all of us?

cult of zir, one of many of these vehicles, which were, and are, and are to come, looks forward to experiencing your process too.
